Get Global Broadband Service Anywhere !

Satellite Traveler's Access Service (Sat TAS) is CGNET’s highly mobile satellite communications service, employing portable two-way terminals weighing as little as 2.2 pounds with dimensions of 7.9”x5.5”x1.6”. The devices can run off their own battery, a car battery or external AC power. It is ideal for use in areas far from terrestrial telecommunications or power, and its mode of use is the same worldwide. The silver object on the table in the picture is a BGAN satellite terminal.

Sat TAS is based on Inmarsat’s Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service, which currently covers about 85 percent of the world’s land mass. This makes it usable almost everywhere, except for polar areas, parts of Siberia and northern Japan, and some Pacific islands.

The service now offers both VoIP and switched voice, as well as data transmission at speeds up to 492 kbps. It is therefore competitive with sat phones, with hugely superior data transmission capabilities.

The user can communicate via switched voice and IP data simultaneously. Voice calls can be placed by plugging a standard PSTN phone into the terminal’s RJ-11 port, by Bluetooth, into ports on an Ethernet-connected laptop.

Service Plans

CGNET offers several service plans to fit a customer’s anticipated use and budget. Service usually involves a low monthly fee, plus usage rates based on the number of megabytes sent or received. Per-megabyte rates range from USD 4.00 to 6.99, depending on the plan.

The Standard Plan requires a one-year commitment, a $35 monthly fee and a $6.99 per megabyte charge. Customers pay only for megabytes used.

Switched voice charges are standard worldwide at USD .99 per minute to a wired telephone and 1.09 per minute to a mobile phone.

All plans offer circuit-switched and IP voice, IP data, ISDN and streaming data, unless otherwise noted. Some terminals do not support ISDN.

The Anytime Plan also requires a one-year commitment but there is NO MONTHLY FEE. Transmission costs $6.99 per megabyte, with a monthly minimum usage commitment of 10 megabytes. If the minimum 10 megabytes are not used in a month, however, they roll over for subsequent use.

Other plans include:

The Essential Plan, which offers voice and IP data only, for a 12-month commitment, a $50 monthly fee and a rate of $6.49 per MB.

The Entry Allowance Plan includes 20 MB a month, for a 3-month commitment, a $125 monthly fee and a data rate of $6.29 per MB.

The Mid Allowance Plan offers a data rate of $5.19 per MB, 100 MB per month, with a 6-month commitment and a $450 fixed monthly fee. 30 minutes of voice are included.

The High Allowance Plan offers a data rate of $4.00 per MB, 750 MB per month and 200 minutes of voice, and requires a 12-month commitment.
