Installing Exchange 5.5
This document assumes you have followed the instructions in the NT installation document (see NT Installation Instructions for Exchange Server 5.5) for the installation and configuration of your NT Server. Please verify that you have configured your NT server as recommended - the configuration considerations are critical for proper operation of your Exchange Server.

NOTE: IF You make ANY CHANGES to NT that require the Original Install CD, you MUST REINSTALL THE NT SERVICE PACK.
- IMPORTANT: Log into the NT domain with the ExchAdmin username
- Start Installation: File, Run, \setup\i386\setup.exe
- If installing from the 5.5 CD, disk should AutoPlay. Select 'Set Up Server and Components'. Select "Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5.
- IMPORTANT: Change Directory to D:\EXCHSRVR (Make sure you do this before clicking custom!) (Only NT should be on C:)
- Choose 'Complete/Custom'.
- Select Microsoft Exchange Server and click Options.
- Deselect the options to install the MSMail and cc:Mail connectors, then click OK.
- Select 'Microsoft Exchange Administrator' and 'Outlook Web Access', and if desired 'Books Online'. (If 'Outlook Web Access' deselects itself, then IIS and Active Server Pages need to be installed first.)
- Set licensing to per seat; agree to the License.
- Enter in the Organization Name (Important See Naming Conventions )
- Enter in the Site Name: (Important - See Naming Conventions)
- Click 'yes' to create a new site.
- The account name should come up as Exchadmin -IMPORTANT - change this to ExchService
- Click on Browse, choose ExchService from the Domain List.
- Click OK, supply the Password.
- ExchService should be granted log on as a service right.
- Wait while files are copied.
- Run the Optimizer. Follow the prompts by clicking 'Next' a few Times.
- You need to put in the number of users and the number of users in the organization.
- For type of server, check to make sure it has Connector / Directory Import selected.
- Logging : Set all drives to D:\ or E:\ . This depends on your hard disk configuration. Pay attention to where the Optimizer places your logs. It is preferable to keep the transaction logs on separate drives from the database logs, but regardless, Do not store any logs on drive C.
- Click on Move Files Automatically.
- Reboot the Machine.
- In User Manager for Domains- Under Menu Item "Exchange Options", deselect the option "Always delete the Exchange mailbox when deleting NT accounts" - this is a helpful accident prevention measure.
Notice these Organization Name and Site names are critical - you cannot change them without re-installing Exchange.
